No need to change your daily schedule - no need to take time from your family. You can learn to use Practice Today when you have the time and when it is convenient. You can start right now because you are in a class of just one person - you. You set your own pace and learn to use Practice Today as quickly or as slowly as you wish. In some cases you can start earning money the very first day!

More money, more fun, And you can be at home to enjoy your family

A medical billing business can easily be run from your home. Working at home has many advantages. You can set your own hours. You can do as much work, or as little, as you want. You don't need to commute to work. You can take care of pre-school children yourself, and be there when older children come home from school. You save money on gasoline, clothes, child care, and food. Practice Today affords you lifestyle options.

How do I get started?

Step 1 - Find out what the competition is doing, and how much they are charging. This will take some telephone work, and a little imagination. You might have to be a little sneaky in extracting this information. For goodness sake, don't call a competitor and say "I want to start my own medical billing service from my home, how much do you charge..." You will only get your feelings hurt, or worse yet, you will get bogus information. Pretend to be the spouse of a new physician moving into the area. Ask a thousand tough questions. Write down all of their answers. Request their brochure, and a list of their references.

Step 2 - You must learn to use Practice Today. Notice I did NOT say you must BUY Practice Today. You must simply learn to use it. Download the demo, read the User's Manual, print some sample claims, and reports. Sign up for a regional training class, if you need to. Create a portfolio of all the sample reports and claims. You will use these to help sell your clients.

Step 3 - You need to get the basic paraphernalia that says you are in business, i.e. business cards, a simple brochure, stationary. You must create a private work area in your home where you can conduct business. This area should be out of your toddler's line of fire. Remember, you will be handling very sensitive and personal information. You don't want a patient's insurance claim lying on your coffee table for all your neighbors to see. That is a sure way to go out of business FAST, and to get sued even faster. You must be able to assure your clients that you will keep their patients' data confidential.

Step 4 - The next step is to find your very first client. "How do I do that?" you ask. You must put on your sales cap and get on the telephone and beat an interview out of the bushes. You want to at least get your foot in the door to meet the doctor, or the office manager.

Remember, you are offering a very valuable service.

  • You can prepare and submit your client's insurance claims in a timely fashion, and follow-up on them
  • You can provide your client with valuable management reports;

They, in turn, get their insurance payments without any of the headaches. (Yes, there are occasional headaches associated with insurance billing. If there weren't, doctors would do all of their own billing.) The net result, you get a fee for your efforts. Money in the bank. Everybody is happy!

To get your first client, you can create an introductory offer.
Suggestions:

  • Offer to do the first 100 claims for $1 each, the second 100 claims for $2 each, and so on until you reach your ideal billing rate.
  • Offer to do the first 50 claims FREE.

Step 5 - Now, you must invest in Practice Today. You need the software to deliver your claims. And remember, you must deliver, ON TIME. We at Legacy Press want your business to get off to a good start. If funds are short, or your spouse is skeptical (as they sometimes are), take advantage of our "Slow Start Program."
